HWO 3-on-3 in early 2003. The team that came after Dabbers

Santa's Li.t.t.le Helpers (remove the .'s) Game 10

Think yesterday's game was a nail biter? This one was even closer!

So I don't keep you all in suspense, I'll start by telling you the final score ...

5-4. Yay, we won.

Oh, but what a win! We tied the game with one second left. Puck went in, buzzer sounded. 4-4. Lucky us, we had a penalty shot, which my Zen guru teammate very calmly converted into goal number five.

Hey, guess who got the game-tying assist? Yes, the one that went in with one second left on the clock.

Oh, but it gets better. I had not only a last-second game-tying assist, but also our first assist and a goal somewhere in between the two. I was useful tonight! I also managed not to fall on my injured ass, and even managed to avoid losing my hand when my glove came off in a spectacular collision-slash-scrum that took out the ref. The most amusing (though at the time annoying) part was when one of their players skated up and whacked me on the shoulder and head with her stick while I was lying there helpless trying to keep my exposed hand in the air (and far far away from sharp skate blades).

I think I pulled something, but I think I did it while scoring my goal, so in my book that's a fair tradeoff. Oh what a beautiful drop pass from my teammate. I returned the favor later; she got the feed for the game-tying goal.

La la la. Whoo.

Santa's Li.t.t.le Helpers (remove the .'s) Game 9

I think I have a bit of a concussion. Roh.

More on that later. The rest of the game, yes, um, we lost. 3-6, I think. Okay, that's all I have to say about the rest of the game.

More about my head. How come no one told me that if I fall backward I'm supposed to tuck my chin? It doesn't help to tell me that in the locker room after the game. Is it considered common sense? Have I no common sense?

Anyway, I got knocked backward and whacked the back of my head on the ice. I got right back up and thought I was okay. I got off the ice at the end of my shift and still thought I was okay. Then when I was first in line to get back on the ice I just zoned out. My teammate was standing there hollering at me to get on the ice and I was just standing there staring at some uninteresting part of the rink. What? Huh? There's a game going on? My head kinda hurts. Roh.

Things seem okay for the most part. At least the room's not spinning; it only ebbs a bit here and there. Damned head, quit hurting. It's not really all that bad but it annoys the crap out of me since I'm not headache prone. I think the last time I had a headache it was from my car accident back in October.

Dammit, I think that means I bruised my brain again.

Santa's Li.t.t.le Helpers (remove the .'s) Game 8

Finally! Hockey! It's been so long since my last game. It was nice to skate and pass and deke and shoot again. I got me two assists and two goals. Too bad we lost anyway. I think the final score was 7-11. Our subs kept getting penalties for knocking over players on the other team. Then they'd complain that the other guy was diving. Then the other team would get mad and go after our subs. Greeeat.

You know what? I miss my Green team from last season. Roh.

Santa's Li.t.t.le Helpers (remove the .'s) Game 6

Erf. I got flattened last night. I have a big ole bruise on my left bicep to show for it. My neck hurts today, too, but that might be from working or sleeping on it funny.

It was cool, though, I drew ooh-that-had-to-hurt ooh's from both benches. Too bad I didn't draw a penalty too. Not that it would have mattered anyway. I think we lost 4-9 in the end.

Our rent-a-goalie sucked. He scored one of their goals for them. WTF?! He let two through in the first minute and kept going down unnecessarily. And when he didn't go down, the puck would trickle in between his skates. He didn't deserve to be wearing all of his fancy goalie gear.

Stupid goalie. I bet he contaminates cubes during the week, too. Rarr.

Santa's Li.t.t.le Helpers (remove the .'s) Game 5

Well, I have some good news, some bad news, and some amusing news. I also have some side news, now that I think about it. I'll present them in that order.

Good news: We won! Final score: 5-4. I got me two whole goals, one where I took it in myself with some excellent pass support from my patience mentor / zen guru teammate, and one where I got the most beautifulest pass from my favoritest center in the whole wide world. Top shelf ... both shots! I think I finally figured out how to shoot.

Bad news: I spent a lot of time horizontal on the ice. I managed to bruise my right pelvis, and I think I pulled every muscle on my right side from the bruise through my neck in that same fall. It was for a good cause, though, and in the end I earned "second goalie" status for the game. A couple Advil and a bit of Flexall and I'm all set to heal up for Friday.

Amusing news: I think our goalie was sipping beer through his water bottle all evening. He was lumbering around insisting on hugging each and every one of his "girls" before and after the game, and they weren't just hugs, they were hugs. That's not even the amusing part. The amusing part came in the locker room when I was checking out the bruise on my pelvis. I heard him say, "Aww, you hurt yourself. Here, let me kiss it all better." The next thing I knew there he was, planting a kiss on my bruised pelvis. One of my teammates then mentioned that she had blocked a puck high up on her inner thigh, which led to a very hopeful request from said drunk goalie to examine the area.

Side news: I got my first roughing penalty tonight. Roughing, ha! I got called because the person I collided with happened to be half my size. Usually they're twice my size, and I don't go flying. Learn to brace yourself, little one! Sheesh!

Anyway, we won. I had two pretty goals, a few great saves, and a kiss on my pelvis from our drunk goalie. I gotta say, I can't ask for much more than that in a night of hockey. Whoo.

Santa's Li.t.t.le Helpers (remove the .'s) Game 4

First, the good news. We had 3 goals, and of those I had an assist and a goal.

Second, the bad news. We lost, 3-9.

And now, the rant. I can't stand the players on tonight's team. I had a feeling tonight's game would be ugly and I was right. I swear, these guys thought they were in a checking league. Not only that, but the stupid refs at HWO don't know what a penalty is. See how my teammate went flying? That's tripping. See how that guy almost beheaded her in front of the goal? That's slashing. One of my teammates almost got into a fight with this total dick on the other team because the guy cross checked her in the back. Had anything happened I might actually have gotten into my first fight ever, since 1) I can't stand the guy she was having her little spat with and 2) this particular teammate is one of the few people I play with that I would defend unconditionally, regardless of how much of an ass whooping I'd be in for. I guess it's a good thing that nothing happened. On the other hand, that's what helmets are for, although I guess those don't do much good against stick blades, as evidenced by the blade to our goalie's neck early in the 2nd period. I've never seen anyone writhe into the goal before. Not pretty.

Anyway, it was good to get on the ice, at least. I had originally planned to play defense, but somehow managed to get a couple points anyway. I also got to crunch a couple annoying people. Well, I guess I got crunched a few times in return. Hrmph.
