New Season
Well, tonight's tryout night for the Red division in hockey. I guess that means last season is officially over. I'm still not quite ready to remove my Powerp.u.ck Girls links in the margin though. Sniff sniff.

Powerp.u.ck Girls (remove the .'s) Game 11
Boo. We lost. 3-5. And only because our goalie's gear didn't show up until 2 goals into the game. Well, that and because my team just wasn't feeling it tonight. The lines were rotating strangely, my teammates were drugged up on Sudafed, and I was dead tired from Cyberfest the night before. Time for Plan B: Become Powerp.u.ckheads on Wednesday to try to bring down the Dragons. We want number one and we don't want to share it. Three more days and we'll see.

We'll Take It
Okay, so our plan kind of worked. 5 Powerp.u.ck Girls in a Hammerhead line of 13 skaters. 3 Hammerhead goals made by Powerp.u.ck subs. A 3-3 tie with the Dragons who were at full strength with all 3 ringers. Not too shabby.
And what's this mean for the Powerp.u.ck Girls (I hope you've been removing the .'s without my telling you so)? Worst case scenario is we tie for first in the division with the Dragons. Any other scenario and we win it. No tourneys, no trophies. Just the satisfaction of knowing that we're number one.
On a side note, I desperately need some hockey butt padding.

And the not-so-secret Powerp.u.ck plan
And the not-so-secret Powerp.u.ck plan to help the ailing Hammerheads beat the evil Dragons is now in action. Hockey Tuesday night! I'm gonna play my little butt off subbing for the Hammerheads. Me and four of my teammates. Go Powerp.u.cks, uh, I mean, Hammerheads!

Powerp.u.ck Girls (remove the .'s) Game 10
Hrmm ... I feel like it's the same thing every week now. We won, 10-1. Yay. I got a goal. Yay. I got an assist. Yay. My line got 6 goals total. Yay. Those were in the first and second periods. We let the D play O in the third period. Otherwise, who knows how many goals we would have gotten. Um, that's it. I guess we kind of expect to crush our opponents these days. Next Sunday should be exciting, though. Hopefully the other team will be at full strength. Bring on the ringers!

Powerp.u.ck Girls (remove the .'s) Game 9
We rock! We rock! We rock we rock we rock!
The Dragons got their asses kicked. 9-1. Nah nah.
I, on the other hand, broke my ass. It hurts like a mofo, whatever that means. There were some big girls on the other team. I somehow managed to bounce off every single one of them. I also somehow managed to fall on my ass after every bounce. Unfortunately for me, my hockey pants have plenty of tailbone padding but zeeero buttcheek padding. Ow my butt. Ow my butt. It huuurrrrrts.
Okay, enough whining. More on how lovely it is that we won. Wanna know the loveliest part? Nine goals and all I had were two assists. THAT'S how much my team has gelled. We're a friggin' TEAM! That makes me happier than all the breakaways in the world. Whoo for us. Whoo for us.
So much more to say, but it's time for me to go. I'll write about other randomness from the night later. Ciaoz!

Powerp.u.ck Girls (remove the .'s) Game 8
So the Dragons wanted a rematch. They said game 6 was a fluke. They said they were shorthanded in that game. So tonight they all came. They took their 3 best players, put them on an O line, and sent them after us. And when it was all over they had nothing on the scoreboard to show for it. Zero. No goals. Bye bye.
That's right, we shut them out! 3-0! All from my line! I got an assist, then a goal, then a dead-on backhand shot that found its way to the back of the net 2 rebounds later. Whoo for me! I was an UberVivo on the ice tonight. ![]()
I didn't start off very uber, though. I got waaay too pumped up for the game. On the first play I had a breakaway and I got so excited I fell on my face. Yes, on my face. I also somehow managed to get the puck to my teammate while on my face. Phew. I redeemed myself on the next play with an assist. Phew again!
My center had some words of inspiration for me before the game ...
Quote of the Day
It's all on you today. Puck's on your stick ... puck's in the goal. Visualize. Got it?
Um, yeah, sure. No pressure. Uh-huh.
Good thing I can visualize.
My new goal of the season: Green Division MVP. And if I don't get it, my center damned well better get it. I don't want any Dragons winning that honor!

Powerp.u.ck Girls (remove the .'s) Game 7 ... Special Bonus Post At The End
We're beginning to dominate.
Seven goals for game 7, to the other team's one. I guess that's what happens when you learn to pass. We wore out their goalie tonight. And at the end of it all, most of us weren't even tired.
I got to play right wing again, with my favorite center and left winger teammates. I requested that line because I knew we could score. I think our line scored half our goals. Whee!
Got me an assist and another breakaway goal. Oh, but it wasn't just any breakaway. It was a breakaway on a penalty kill off my own faceoff! Whee again!
WOooWOoo for the Powerp.u.ck Girls (remove the .'s) !!
You guys all know by now to remove the .'s, right?
Okay, and now for the bonus.
The Post-Game Bonus
So after the game the other team's captain came around and invited us all to have a beer at an Irish karaoke pub nearby. Sure, I said. It's always good to hang out with everyone afterward. Besides, I wanted to sing!
I reek of smoke. The place was full of smoking drunks. But they were singing and having a good time so it was all good.
I realized about 2 minutes after I got there that I was the only straight one in my group. I got to hear lots about the drunken dyke march at the Gay Pride Parade last weekend. A different crowd indeed, my hockey homies. Kind of refreshing, actually.
Pause here for 1:30 AM donut run with Chih.
Back. Had the usual chocolate covered old fashioned donut. Threw in a carton of milk for good measure.
So yeah, beer and dyke talk. I signed up to sing Limp Bizkit somewhere along the way. Finally my turn came up and I busted out with a full on Fred Durst rendition of My Way. Yeeeah! Everyone in the place went nuts and started jumping around. I had a little mosh pit going! I finished up and random bar patrons came up to high five me. My hockey homies looked at my glass of water and wondered how I managed to Durst out sober.
But you guys, I do everything sober!
There was this old drunk guy at the bar smoking cigars. He put a quarter in one of those stuffed animal claw machines in the corner of the bar and won himself a stuffed ducky. The duck was just sitting there on the bar next to him as he drank. At one point I picked it up and made it dance. Oh! Conversation post!
Conversation of the Day
- I want you to have this duck.
- But he's your drinking buddy!
- No no, I just talked to him and he says he wants to go home with you,
not me.
Thanks for the stuffed duck, old drunk guy.
I've got a quote of the day, too. It's from my steer wrestler teammate, whose birthday is today. Oh, by the way, happy July 4th, everyone!
Quote of the Day
It wasn't until I was four that I realized the fireworks weren't for me.
Hockey and dykes and duckies and Limp Bizkit karaoke. Whee!
A Bonus Bonus Section
There was going to be only one bonus section, but Chih decided he wanted a donut while I was writing the original bonus section and so now there's a bonus to the bonus. The donut was decent and the free fresh donut holes were great. I'm not sure whether we got the donut holes because of my irresistible cuteness or Chih's irresistible hottieness. Either way, we chowed and talked and then played with bright orange vinyl plasticky flags at a Berkeley intersection at 3 in the morning. Quite fun. A lovely way to finish off the night!

Powerp.u.ck Girls (remove the .'s) Game 6
WhoO!
And finally the Dragons lose a game. No mixup on my part this time. It really was them, and they really were undefeated. Were being the keyword. Heheh.
WhoO!
Guess who shot the gamewinner?
And here's how it all went down:
Powerp.u.ck Girls (remove the .'s) are up 3-2. I get the puck. I make a bad pass, they intercept it and score. 3-3 with 6 minutes left. I'm pissed. I don't want a tie. I want a win. I want one more shift so I can redeem myself.
2 minutes left. I'm back on the ice. I'm playing right wing and we're facing off on our end in the right faceoff circle. So I'm in the corner. We win the faceoff and I get the puck. I'm determined to take it to the goal. I deke one defender going left, deke another off the boards to my right. Skate skate skate! Down the ice, toward the goalie. The last breakaway I had she saw me the whole way. Not this time. I'd learned. Puck left. Goalie left. Puck right. Shot. Goal.
Powerp.u.ck Girls (remove the .'s) 4-3.
Ahhhhh ... so satisfying.

Powerp.u.ck Girls (remove the .'s) Game 5
We won! We won! We played the team that we were 0-2 against and we won! So much for the other team being undefeated, heheh.
We brought 'em down with a shutout, too: 4-0. Yeeeeeh.
My contribution: One very sweet shot from the right corner and an open netter from waaaaay down the ice. Also one lovely juke on a breakaway followed by a major collision that resulted in a penalty for the other team for tripping me. Yeah! That's what you get for trying to take me out!
WOooWOoo!!
It's been 2 hours since the end of the game and I'm still hyper as all hell.
I need to go run some laps or something.
Oh! Amusing side note of the day: One of my teammates, who is rather hefty, likes to say, "When a larger mass collides with a smaller mass, momentum dictates that the smaller mass will go flying." Well, something like that. I know she's right because I collided with her at open skate once and went flying. Anyway, she wasn't at the game today. She was at a rodeo. A rodeo? Yes. Actually, she was in the rodeo. She couldn't play hockey because she was busy wrestling cows.
Boy am I glad she's on my team.

Powerp.u.ck Girls (remove the .'s) Game 3
Okay, I know what you're all gonna ask so let me get that out of the way:
No, we didn't win.
And now for the surprise:
No, I'm not pissed.
Strange! I'd think I would be too! But no, I left the game satisfied. Maybe I've come to terms with the fact that the powers that be created uneven teams this season? Maybe I'm happy that my line didn't give up any goals? Maybe I'm happy with the way I played? Maybe it's all of the above?
Maybe I was just happy to have been out there playing instead of sitting in my cube like I am now trying to figure out why the feature formerly known as folder navigation is all of a sudden generating exponentially growing error logs.
Could be linear. Kind of a complicated tree-like growth, actually.
In any case, I skated my ass off tonight. Played defense this time. Liked it because it gave me peace of mind as far as being able to keep the puck in the zone, but I tend to like to move in toward the opponent's goal so all the skating back and forth wore me out. That and the other team had some fast skaters.
Not to worry, though. I took a few of 'em out. Hehe.
I got a bunch of good shots off, too. That and a breakaway. No goal, but hey at least I got shots off, which is pretty darned cool considering I was on D.
I dunno. My mind's not on blogging right now so there's not much I can think of to say. I played hard. I did well. I got better. There's much for me to work on still. I'm happy with the amount I've improved and I guess I'm happy that there's more improving to do. Yay for me.
I'm so tired. Damned FFKAFN!

Powerp.u.ck Girls (remove the .'s) Rock!
Game 2 recap in 5 sentences:
We won! We won! I scored a goal! I scored a goal! Yeeeeeah!
This one was kinda screwy. The other team's goalie was late for the game, so our first 4 goals were kinda, well, not true goals, in my mind. After all, hockey socks do not take up much space in front of the net.
But even if we subtract the 4 pseudo-goals we woulda won, so there!
Final score: 6-1. Final score minus pseudo-goals: 2-1.
Hooray for me ... mine was a real goal. ![]()
Hooray for our goalie, the one I nicknamed "Molasses" after last week's game. She moved a lot better today. She was like heated molasses! Whee!
Hooray for our defense, which kept the puck out of our zone > 70% of the time. I think our goalie was bored. That's the way it should be!
I can't wait to face last week's team again. I will score on that goalie.
I will I will I will.

Hockey Hockey Hockey !!!
So I'm back from my first official hockey game. I have a gazillion things to say and I don't know where to start. Should I list? Should I ramble? Should I bullet point? Maybe I should try paragraphing.
First of all, it's amazing that I even made it to the game. After all, this time last night I was lying on a bed in the ER. But adrenaline does funny things, I suppose. By the time I got to the rink my body was all ready to go. I kept looking for signs of fatigue and illness and couldn't find any. Whoo for adrenaline! I'm kinda scared of what's gonna happen to me when it wears off ...
But before that happens, I'd like to say hooray for the Powerp.u.ck Girls (remove the .'s)! We held a little e-vote last week for our team name. Yours truly suggested the Powerp.u.ck Girls (remove the .'s). I won! I won!
Speaking of winning, well, we didn't. Not for lack of trying, though. I played my ass off. So did a lot of other skaters on our team. We had some good shots but the other goalie was fast and sharp. Our goalie, well, she's kind of, um, slow. I don't want to get started on the topic so that's all I have to say about that.
Oh, but at least she doesn't go down the instant she sees the puck.
I learned a couple things tonight, too. One: I need to learn to stop on ice because if I keep using my butt to do it I will have a mighty bruised ass by the end of the season. Two: I gotta watch out for the really big players on the other team because I ran into one tonight and bounced onto my ass. I don't think she noticed.
And here's something I don't get: What's up with women giggling during a mad scramble to free the puck? If it were guys they'd be shouting profanities at each other. I was confused. My hockey personality doesn't come with a giggle. It comes with a game face. Grrr ...
And one final note, which also kind of confuses me. The two forwards on my line (I played center) came up to me after the game and said, "Wow, you played really hard tonight. You were all over the place." It was good to hear, but then I was a tad bothered. Shouldn't everyone have played just as hard? I kind of looked at them for a bit and finally said, "It's hockey! That's the point!"
