I'm Addicted!
I noticed soon after getting TiVo that I'd often want to rewind and relisten to things on the radio. Today, my TiVo addiction reached a new high (low?): I heard a loud sound outside and I almost grabbed the remote to rewind and relisten so I could figure out what it was.

Anyone have any good mpeg-2 editing software? The stuff I've been using is painful, doesn't produce a very good product, and will only work 'til the trial period runs out.

Good news! My TiVo got upgraded, so now I can transfer shows to my computer.
Except that my VAIO has somehow decided to stop talking to my DHCP server.
I should go to bed, but I really can't sleep not knowing why my main computer won't connect to the network.
Bah.

Penguin Porn
CNN just did a news blurb about gay penguin couples at a Germany zoo. The anchorwoman tried to deliver her lines with a straight face while the network showed closeup footage of said penguins getting it on. Some notes:
1. Penguins quiver a lot when they screw.
2. Penguins have large anuses.
3. Humping penguins look really funny on TiVo slow motion replay.
When am I going to get my TiVo firmware upgrade so I can share gems like this with my readers?

JavaHMO For My TiVo
TiVo Desktop is a neat idea.
JavaHMO is a niftier incarnation of that neat idea.
Desktop to TiVo: photos and mp3s vs. photos and mp3s and iTunes playlists and streaming audio and movie showtimes and weather and a whole bunch of other stuff. The interface on the TiVo end is still pretty primitive, but still, being able to wirelessly stream Shoutcast industrial beats to my TV is damned cool.
Now, if only TiVo would push a new version of their software onto my box so I can start transferring recorded programs.

Friday Morning At The Post Office
Went to the post office this morning to pick up my TiVo. Got there when they opened, 9 AM. There was already a line of about 6 people ahead of me. There were four counters, but only one was staffed ... by a very slow and perhaps figuratively very slow man. There was some other lady running around doing busywork, and she'd look up from time to time to give everyone in line a dirty look. She looked to be having a bad day (even though they'd just opened). The line ... didn't ... move. I gave up and headed into work. When I left there were about 12 people in line, staring at the lady having the bad day, getting dirty looks back from her, waiting for the vslow/fvslow man to figure out how to help the first customer of the day ship her packages.
I wonder what my Friday afternoon return visit has in store for me.

TV. Whoa.
Now that my LR computer is all set up (and also since I'm having a complete couch potato month), I actually watched TV last night. Lots of it. Some highlights:
- South Park: I haven't watched an episode of South Park in over half a year. I've missed this show! I need a TiVo.
- Drawn Together: Someone told me about this show last week, and last night it came on after South Park. I like this show! I need a TiVo.
- The Princess Bride: I channel surfed right into, "My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die" STOP SAYING THAT! I need a TiVo.
- The Godfather: Caught the last half hour of that movie. I love, love, love the baptism scene. I wanna watch it again. I need a TiVo.
Okay, I don't need a TiVo. I just want one. Has anyone figured out how to hack some free listings onto the machine yet? Or, at the very least, eliminate the need for a subscription? Monthly bills, blah!
