What To Eat?
I've been having trouble finding food to eat on nights when I come home too late to cook. There's usually fruit at home, but I can't eat only fruit. I used to eat Easy Mac, but my taste buds outgrew it. I can eat cereal, but I eat that in the morning, and I've been coming home late too often to eat that much of it. I've been resorting to canned soup. I love soup, but that's going to get old soon.
What's a good, somewhat healthy small meal item I can keep at home? I want something that can keep for a while, and has a decent amount of protein. Carbs and fat are okay, but I figure if I'm still scrounging around the kitchen hungry while ignoring a freezer full of ice cream, my body's telling me it wants something else.
Feeding myself was a lot easier when I wanted ice cream for dinner all the time.
Tonight's soup: Wolfgang Puck New England Clam Chowder. Snow's Condensed kicks its butt any day.

Sherbet Twitch
I bought myself a big tub of sherbet the other day. I was thinking about it just now, and literally jumped out of my seat to get some. It happened so suddenly that I scared myself. Seriously, it was like one of those crazy jolt yourself awake whilst falling asleep twitches.
That was yummy. I think I'll go twitch me some more.

Back On The Bike
Not wanting a repeat of lardball week, I rode my bicycle to my doctor's appointment this morning, and then into work. I've missed pedal commuting! I rode slow; my legs are sore from skating yesterday, but I figured it'd be a good way to clear out the lactic acid. My pants feel a little tighter than usual; I'm thinking that's last week's ice cream. Chocolate Peanut Butter Haagen Dazs, Mango Haagen Dazs, Dublin Mudslide Ben & Jerry's, Coco-Mango extra thick Palo Alto Creamery shake, and many mini servings of Strawberry Cheesecake Dreyer's at work. Wait, no Mango Zambeedo? Oh yeah, I was out, but not to worry, I've restocked my freezer with two more pints of the stuff. That should last me until at least Wednesday...
Okay, how did my post about riding turn into a post about ice cream?

As if to punctuate my point, one of the guys at the office e-mailed everyone the following this morning: I heard that we are going to approach 100F today. To help in this issue, there is a variety of frozen treats in the Break Room freezer.

Olallieberry Ice Cream
Because 11 pints of ice cream is not enough, Aaron and I decided to make some of our own. We drove out to Phipps Country Farm in Pescadero Sunday afternoon and picked two big bags of super ripe olallieberries.
In the evening, we started production. (Actually, Aaron did most of the work since I had a paper to write.) There was much washing, pureeing, and straining of berries, followed by some mixing, an ice run, and 40 minutes of loud churning. Next came a taste test, which was oh so lovely, and then ... waiting.
Waiting turned into sleeping, and during that time the ice cream turned into a big bowl of heavenly, creamy, olallieberry goodness. Tasty, and pretty too!

I Really Do Live Off Ice Cream
For some reason, I haven't been eating much ice cream lately. I've consumed maaaybe half a pint's worth in the last three weeks. This is a considerable drop from my previous rate of consumption, which averaged 2-3 pints of HD/B&J's per week.
I have been more sedentary (I don't work as hard at scuba and swimming as I do on the ice or on my bicycle) than usual, my other eating habits have remained the same, and I have lost about a pound a week for the last three weeks.
I always used to joke that I live off ice cream, but now I think that might actually be true.
I wouldn't say I'm surprised, but I do find it kind of amusing.

Fice Cweam!
Doug came up for a visit yesterday and we headed out for ... you guessed it, ice cream! We headed over to Mitchell's, home of some of the best tropical flavors the the area. Boy was I excited when I saw their special of the month: A coco-banana something-or-other. A scoop each of my two favorite ice creams (macapuno and mango), banana slices, mango topping, whipped cream, nuts, a cherry, and an umbrella, served up in a coconut shell. Good stuff!
Yeah, eating the nuts was interesting. I should have gotten it without, but I'm so used to getting them that I didn't realize it until I took the first lick and thought, huh, this is solid, how am I supposed to eat this?

Sick Of Peanut Butter?!
Peanut butter just doesn't do it for me anymore. I think I've eaten too much of it lately or something. Remember those peanut butter and honey bagels I used to love so much? The ones I had to try very hard to cut down on? I've had two halves in the past month and neither of them really did anything for me.
Sick Of Diet Mountain Dew?!
I've drastically cut down on Diet Mountain Dew consumption, too. I used to drink at least one a day, and three or four on a typical grease monkey weekend day. Now, it's one or two a week, and one or two on a long grease monkey weekend day. They don't really do much for me anymore, either.
Sick of Mango Häagen-Dazs?!
Yes, even Mango Häagen-Dazs. I don't crave endless pints of it anymore.

What next? I'm scared.
This reminds me of a time when I was in sixth grade or so. I somehow lost interest in all my favorite foods for a couple weeks. I didn't want pizza, didn't want pasta, didn't even want McDonald's. I think my mom was scared for me, like I'm scared for me now.

Six-pack Plan
Okay, as part of my efforts to get a six-pack by Christmas, I'm cutting down on peanut butter and honey bagels as of today. That'll save me a good 300-400 calories per bagel (that's just the pb and honey; I'm still eating the bagel). Multiply that by 5, that's 1500-2000 calories per week. Multiply that by 30, that's 45000-60000 calories between now and Christmas. Divide by 3500 and that's 12-17 pounds.
Hrmm ... that's more than I want to lose. Maybe that means more ice cream.
Maybe that means more Mango Häagen-Dazs.

Whee! I just got to
Whee! I just got to drive an M3! I didn't even have to trade any favors for it. By the same token, I wasn't drunk and I didn't total the car, either. Heh.
Speaking of drunk, it seems there are a lot of pictures out there of me at various stages of drunkenness, especially given the number of times a year I actually drink. They also seem to all be on public display in someone's Yahoo! photo album. What a lovely thing to find out on a Monday afternoon. Argh.
On a unrelated note, I was at Cold Stone just now. As I was making my way through my banana ice cream I found a piece of hair on the side, smooshed between the ice cream and the side of the cup. The hair didn't look particularly curly, so I continued eating the ice cream, taking care not to scoop up the hair. A few bites later something distracted me, and the next thing I knew I had eaten the hair. Dammit.

What is it? An orange soda float with vanilla ice cream!
As an added bonus, the ice cream somehow manages to pull all the food coloring out of the soda and into the fizz, creating a beautiful layer of bright orange foam on top.

Astronaut Ice Cream Is Gross
I went to REI today to spend my dividend check and bought myself a pack of astronaut ice cream. You know, the stuff they sell in science museum gift shops that all us little kids would flock to and spend our precious allowance money on at the end of our field trips. And then when we got on the school bus for the ride back we'd open our spacey-looking packages and giddily eat what I remembered to be something kind of decent and ice creamy. Well, apparently not! Either I had no taste buds as a kid or the quality of astronaut ice cream has gone down. Tell me, aside from the fact that there's strawberry flavor next to vanilla flavor next to chocolate flavor, what part of astronaut ice cream actually resembles ice cream? None! None I say! None! Blech!

Viv the Peanut Butter

No B&J's For Me
I was standing in front of the Ben & Jerry's freezer at Safeway yesterday. Try as I might, I could not bring myself to buy a pint. It wasn't that I didn't want ice cream and it wasn't that I thought it was bad for me. I did want ice cream and in fact what I wanted was Ben & Jerry's ice cream. But I just didn't want the reminder. I didn't want to remember all over again every time I opened my freezer. Remember what, you ask? Well that's what I can't tell you. Maybe you should ask me about my dream instead. Now that's something to talk about.
