It's That Time Of Year
It seems every December/January, my body starts to fall apart. After a relatively hockey healthy 2009, I now find myself nursing various injuries. The list, as of today:
Right shoulder - This one makes me mad, because I reinjured it at pickup last week after I got past a player who then purposely tripped me to prevent me from scoring. Because, you know, he was afraid I'd score the game-winning goal for the pickup world championship.
Left knee - The inside of my left knee started aching for no reason in December. I got knocked over and fell funny on it in the first shift of yesterday's game and felt a tiny pop there. It doesn't bother me most of the time, but I think I'll resurrect the hinged knee brace as a precaution.
Left middle finger - The middle knuckle is bruised, swollen, and split wide open. This somehow happened as part of yesterday's first shift fall, and my finger gushed blood the rest of the game. Gosh, that was some landing!
Left ankle - The outer tendon on my left ankle was really angry last month. Tying my skates less tightly seems to be helping, but skate bite irritations take time to heal. Need to be careful with this one.
Only four items. Not too bad, given the state I was in this time last year. I'm somewhat concerned about the knee and shoulder, though. Those joints are serious business!
Come on, body. Have you looked at our hockey schedule? I need you to be healthy!
