Squirmy The Wormy
I found a worm in my fridge last week. At first, I was a little grossed out. A worm! In my fridge! That just wasn't right. I wondered where it came from, and what I should do with it. I poked at it lightly and it squirmed. Aww. I decided to keep it as a pet. What to name it? Squirmy, duh! What to feed it? How about some bok choy? I bet that's where it came from.
I cleaned out an empty peanut butter jar, put a bok choy leaf inside, and in went Squirmy. He didn't seem to like the jar, but quickly disappeared into the folds of the leaf. I actually had quite a bit of trouble finding him, but I could tell he was in there because he ate holes into the leaf everywhere he went. That, and he left green Squirmy poop everywhere.
Here he is in a rare excursion off the leaf. He's fairly translucent, so you can see Squirmy poop in the making.
We kept this up for a week (thanks Aaron for taking care of Squirmy while I was in Vegas). The boy choy leaf even tried to grow (I had saran wrap over the jar, so I think it became a bit of a greenhouse environment). Sadly, things started getting moldy, so I took the saran wrap off. Then, things dried out. Squirmy's no longer squirming; he's turned into a little pupa holed up in the dried up curly tip of the leaf. Will he make it? I dunno.
Here's Squirmy as an active young wormy...
I didn't catch this on video, but it's super cute when he hangs on with his rear legs and explores the space all around him with the rest of his body.
Did I just call a worm cute?
Comments
This is much better than the slug I found on my house plant last night. Note that I did not keep the slug as a pet.

crazy look? no, i'm with VivO on this one. i probably would have adopted Squirmy, too, though i would have spent longer being grossed out. :-)
