Burninating the 2008 LVWHC / Game 2: California Polar Cats

These days, no Vegas tournament is complete without a game against the Polar Cats, and today we played that game. To my relief, the team that showed was a lot like their fun Vegas teams from previous years and not like the Phoenix team we almost had a fight with last May. As usual, we played a close game, with the score tied 2-2 until the final couple minutes. Fortunately, we were the ones who scored to break that tie. Final score: 3-2.

Ellen continued her scoring streak with a goal in the first period. I put another one in in the second period. I chopped a clearing pass out of the air (!), deked around the skater coming at me, took a shot, got my own rebound, and then banked the puck off the goalie's shoulder/back and over the goal line. Craziness, yes, but we needed a little craziness because their goalie stopped every single first shot this game. I'm just glad I managed to lift the puck. That hasn't happened much this weekend; my achy wrist feels pretty useless.

Our line pulled off goal number three, also. I got the puck near the corner in their zone, had the presence of mind (that thing I don't usually have) to skate it toward the blue line and curl back in to shake my defender, then sent a backhand toward the goal, where Meredith and Lucinda were parked. The rebound squirted out to Lucinda's side, and she put it away for our game winner. Whoo, Top Gun line!

They pulled their goalie, but we managed to weather the rest of the game, rallying in the final seconds with a *thump thump thump* chorus. Phew, and whoo!

The best part, though, is that I get to push that yucky Phoenix encounter down on the list of mental notes for this team and add to the list exchanges like this:

PC: Are you okay?? I landed on your head!
Me: You flipped over me! Are YOU okay??

And yes, we're both okay. :)

After the game, Sharon found a pineapple in her bag. It may not live a happy a life like the one Ellen has decided to give Gordo; Sharon declared that she liked pineapples and was going to eat it. I hope she shares...

Way to go! I'm still waiting for the post where you explain how you 'accidentally' set fire to the Monte Carlo...
