Now That's A Graduation Dinner!
Aaron and I had a lovely dinner at Chez TJ tonight, thanks to Scully, who treated us with a very generous and thoughtful graduation present. It's a Michelin one star restaurant situated in a house in downtown Mountain View, of all places. We ordered the Chef's Tasting Menu, which sent 12 amazing mini courses to our table. My descriptions will not do it justice, but it suffices to say that we dined on items such as quail egg, scallop, squab, foie gras, sweetbread, caviar, and truffles. The pork was out of this world tender, the micro veggies adorable, and the desserts scrumptious.
Here are the courses in a little more detail. They're mostly in order, except in the middle.
- quail egg, some other thing, and some other thing
- mushroom steeped in some sort of broth with a cheesy mini roll
- scallops prepared three ways: with quail yolk, some crispy thing, and avocado / smoked kampachi, grilled watermelon, and tomato
- foie gras prepared two ways: fried and bruleed
- citrus cured sardine and frozen gazpacho (Aaron says the server called it "gazpacho sorbet", so take your pick)
- super duper tender squab breast and some other tasty thing that neither Aaron nor I can remember
- sweetbread ravioli with truffles
- plum sorbet with sauce made from some exotic fruit I didn't know existed
- melt in your mouth pork and pistachio crusted foie gras atop a slice of nectarine
- a block of tasty cow cheese and cute little micro greens
- nectarines and other refreshing fruits with some sauce in a big bowl
- fig pot de creme, milk chocolate in a crispy coffee shell, dark chocolate sorbet on fig
- apricot gelee-like thing, magic melty key lime dome, dark chocolate mint
