Arizona Hockey Classic Game 1: Burninators vs. Tucson Chilly Peppers
The Burninators flew into toasty Phoenix, AZ Friday afternoon for the 2007 Arizona Hockey Classic, put on by the same folks who organize the Vegas tournament every year. We opened with a game against the Tucson Chilly Peppers, a team we had never faced before. We played like we usually play the first game of a tournament: a little out of sorts, probably because we don't get to practice together on a regular basis. The Chilly Peppers started the game playing like us, but got it together in the 2nd period, scoring a string of goals in quick succession. Final score: 1-3. Chris scored one for us from D. (Go Chris!) I'm not too worried; we'll just have to beat the next two teams we face. I was happy that the game was fun, clean, and friendly. Short of a win, I don't ask for much more than that. Looking forward to our next game, tomorrow at 5 PM. Also looking forward to a different rink; tonight's was old, small, and stank of Zamboni exhaust, which made me want to blech. Yuck!
Hey, did you notice that the other team's name is a pun? :)

heh, velly punny. next time, i think we need to arrive a day early so we can get "acclimated", though honestly, i don't know if that'd help either.

and the other thing that stank? the bathroom, almost made me hurl...and i am no delicate stomach!

I don't think it's travel; I think it's getting to know our lines again. Most of us spent several hours in Phoenix heat today and played just fine afterward.
And yes, the bathroom smell was disgusting. Lucky me, I got to sit next to the door.

yeah, but no travel today. whether it's an hour or six hour flight, i feel tired and out of sorts the day i arrive.
the stank might be due in part to the poo that was on the toilet bowl. yes, you read that right, not IN, but ON. then someone slammed the toilet seat down so it was on that as well. so gross.

I dunno why I feel the need to point this out, but this team did face the Chilly Peppers a number of years ago (2003, I think) at the now-defunct Tucson tourney. Only we were called Code Red then, but rest assured that Jean and I were there. The team was very nice then, too.

It's nice to hear they haven't changed their ways!
