Not Worth The Gas Savings
My car had been getting terrible gas mileage (270 miles a tank) the last few months, and I was afraid that something might be wrong with it. I finally sucked it up and decided to drive as conservatively as I could to see whether it was a problem with my car or my driving. I behaved myself at every stoplight, accelerated slowly, mostly followed the speed limit, didn't get pissed off when people drove like asses, and cruised in as high a gear as I could. The end result? Over 330 miles on the last tank. That usually happens only on long road trips. Given all the surface streets I have to take these days, 330 miles is a damned good number.
Great, so my car is okay. I'm not doing that again for a long time. It's painful having to drive like that. To make things worse, increasing the number of miles I get on a well-behaved tank only prolongs the pain. I'm going to have to make up for the last 10 days.
I predict 250 miles on my next tank.
Ready, set, vroom.

LMAO! i get about 350 miles to my 18 gallon tank, which is pretty damn good for an SUV. i know i can get more if i drive nicely, but i just *can't*.
what irritates me most is when people frown on my big "gas guzzler" when their old, but smaller car gets less mpg. don't piss me off! i bump you off the road! =D

OMG. I periodically will set my cruise control to 25MPH in my little island city. It makes me laugh because it's so much like coasting--or sight seeing. "Look, honey, a house! Another one!"

Yeah, I set cruise control when I'm aiming for a slow speed, too. :)
