Quote of the Day
Our respect for human rights requires us to execute him, and there will be no review or delay in carrying out the sentence.
Way to be ironic, Prime Minister al-Maliki.
Regardless of Saddam's actions, guilt, or "presumed" innocence, the trial and everything leading up to his hanging was a farce.
Speaking of his actions, I can think of at least one other president who has ordered the detention of innocent people, the killing of those who oppose his regime, and military action resulting in the deaths of tens of thousands of innocent civilians.
When does that president go on trial?

So you don't believe Saddam to be an evil person?

I was hoping to preclude that question with "Regardless of ..." above. The points I'm trying to make have nothing to do with whether Saddam was an evil person or not. Place him anywhere on the evil scale, and it's still true that his trial was a farce. It's still true that, despite the words of al-Maliki, the entire process was a slap in the face to those who truly believe in human rights. And as for that other president, who is he to decide and enforce what is right or wrong, good and evil, in countries other than his own?
Do I believe Saddam to be an evil person? It doesn't matter. "Evil" is relative. An act that could be construed as evil in one circumstance, from one perspective, or under one set of values could be perfectly acceptable in another circumstance, from another perspective, or under a different set of values.
