Goofy In The Water
For most things I do, I lead with my left foot. If you push me from behind I step forward with my left foot. I snowboard with my left foot forward, and ride a skateboard (if you can call what I do riding) the same way. I learned to hockey stop on my right side first, left foot forward, right foot back. When I'm waiting to return a serve in tennis, I stand with my feet staggered the same way, rocking back and forth until the ball is tossed. When I run or skate, I always take the first step with, you guessed it, my left foot.
So why is it, then, that when I make a giant stride entry I step forward with my right foot? I've thought about this in the context of stepping into a pool in just my swimsuit, and I want to do the same thing. Am I just goofy in the water?

It's because you only breathe on one side when you freestyle (just kidding)!

Hah, maybe, although my right side breathing requires left arm forward, which is regular, not goofy. ;)

Dang! Missed an opportunity to crack wise about lots of us being goofy in the water! Andrea, where are you when we need you? Anyway, which hand do you put over your mask? Maybe you're stepping out with the foot that you can sort of see, as opposed to the one that is obscured by your elbow. Or vice versa. How should I know? Can you detect my frantic grasp for straws of logic?

There is no logic! Last night I did left hand mask/regulator, right hand octo ends, then swapped, then swapped again. Is one better than the other? I have no idea. I just know I want to step right.
As for goofy, I am goofy regardless of whether there's water involved. It's just my feet that are selectively goofy.

what, are you saying i'm goofy or that i'm quick to point out that there is goofiness? either way, HA! i was wondering why goofy came up from disneyland to be in a pool with viv.
i didn't get enough sleep last night. no, not because of val, because i'm STUPID and stayed up late to look into remote controlled lights while my bed hogs slept.

No, quick-witted with wise-cracking. But I'm not sure that you can just look into a remote controlled light and expect any reactions. That's just goofy! As for Amvivian, is one fin maybe ever so slightly looser than the other? Maybe your brain is saying "I'm all about rightnes, but that fin is a bit slippy. Don't step out on that one!" Or not. Either way, you're gonna end up in the drink.

I do the same thing Viv. I think it's because your right foot is actually your dominant or stronger foot and in each activity it is where you need the strength or stability. Most times that's as the back foot, but not always. I know there's one other time I lead with my right, but I can't for the life of me remember it right now.

Yeah, that's true, stepping into the water is definite loss of ground stability. Maybe I'm trying to enter with my stable foot?
I wonder which foot I'd step with if I went skydiving.

You don't normally step when skydiving... you jump head first. So unless your head can be counted as regular or goofy, your skydiving habits won't be very relevant. :P

I think we can safely say that my head is more regular than goofy. :)

I don't know about that Viv. That could be a seperate blog debate all in itself. ;)

Oh, woops. I mean goofy than regular. Too goofy to get it right! :D
