Note To Telemarketers
Calling me "Mrs." is not a good way to sell me something over the phone.

Ma'am get's them in trouble too. Provided they get past the caller ID and my not so subtle " no thanks"...click. Though when they ask for Mrs [insert name] you can truthfully tell them your mom isn't there. }:-)

Or I can do what my mom does and answer the phone in Chinese. Unfortuantely for her the telemarketers have wisened up and had Chinese speakers call their home. That's when she gave in and got caller ID.

We also placed our number in Do Not Call registery but some were slipping through. I can't imagine that Telemarketing even works today it's just SPAM of another variety

Keep in mind that charities (and possibly surveys) are exempt from the do-not-call lists -- a minor bummer, but at least they usually give up after a polite 'We have other ways that we donate, thanks -- but good luck!'. And you can always say "Please put this number on your do-not-call list, thanks." to regular phone advertisers. Keep it up, and eventually it does decrease your calls (or so we've noticed). :-)

Too bad do-not-call doesn't apply to companies with which you have an account. :(

ha, we just never pick up the phone!
although, liz did pick up one time because she was bored while out on maternity leave and managed to arrange a HELOC, which was hella fortuitous because her stupid disability check shenanigans would've made us really, really stressed right about now.
i can't BELIEVE they got chinese callers to call your mom! that's just creepy.

Yeah but the Chinese callers get really confused when you answer in English. I answered one of those when I was visiting home and the person on the other line didn't know what to do.

Hmmmm, maybe I'll try answering in Chinese. ;)
