Burninators Game 3: California Polar Cats

I forgot to mention after game 2 that Christy's mostly okay. She came back and played game 2, hurting leg and all, felt a little better today, and played game 3 also. Phew!

We had 4 goals this game, thanks to a hat trick from Lindsay and a sweet over-the-goalie shot from Jill. 4 goals, however, was not enough. We went into overtime tied 4-4, pulled Cara toward the final seconds, and lost when they put the puck into our open net with 10 seconds to go. Final score: 4-5.

It was a bummer to lose, but we played a decent game, and the other team was cool. No complaints.

Well, except for that one shot that I totally should have scored on. I had the puck on a rebound in front of the net, I knew the goalie would be down, I told myself to turn and lift a forehand over her, I turned and lifted a forehand over her, and missed the wide open net by six inches. Six inches! Totally lame!

I also had another almostgoal in that same period. I came on the ice and saw three of them in their zone, one of them behind the net with the puck. I skated my ass off on the forecheck, stole the puck from her behind the net, went for the wraparound... and got the puck within an inch of the goal line. One inch! Aurgh!

We had some great chances during overtime, but just couldn't get the split seconds and inches quite right.

Out in three. Ouch. But hey, it was fun. We had a team dinner (minus G, unfortunately) afterward at a teppan yaki place, where Gerald and Heather (thank you other G and H!) bought me a Long Island Iced Tea. No, I didn't finish it (thank you Barb and Becky), but the portion of it that I did drink made for a very amusing evening.

I love this team.
