Hockey Afterthoughts

HAt 1: I dig my new shoulder pads. I have to put a little more effort into putting my jersey on over them, but it’s worth it. Oh, and they’re CCM 852s. I made a special effort to remember for those of you abhorred by my inability to name the model of my previous set.

HAt 2: I bought a new water bottle. It’s that one from Big 5 with the extended squirt spout thingy like boxers use. That way, I can drink Gatorade during my games without getting sugary water all over me.

HAt 3: My grey bandana’s turning pink from my hair. Ha!

HAt 4: From the comments made by various teammates before and during today’s PPG! game, I’m not alone in feeling a little, uh, overwhelmed by things. That makes me feel somewhat better.

HAt 5: It had always puzzled me, but after my stress session today I finally started to understand how people just stop showing up on some teams. Not that I plan to stop showing up. I’ll still go to every game and give each of them my all, but shit, it’s only December. I hate that I feel that way. Some people thrive when they’re pushed. Apparently, I don’t. Encourage me, don’t push me.

HAt 6: I tried to take a slapshot during the Dogfish game last night. I need to learn to set up the puck in the right spot more quickly. I had it misplaced by about 6 inches, and the thing went nowhere. Nonetheless, I gotta at least try to take ‘em during games, ’cause otherwise I’ll never learn to do it. I’m going through the requisite looksilly period, I guess.

HAt 7: I think I rearranged something in my back or my hip. Not sure what, but it hurts. Yow.

hey, i saw that slapshot! it was a nice one and even if it’s not on net, you can never predict a nice deflection. =)

Haha! Thanks, Andrea. Yeah, I’ve learned not to totally whiff, but had I placed it properly I might have gotten lift on it and avoided a stick blade deflection. Plus, that woulda looked really cool. Hehehe.

I bought that Big 5 bottle too. I liked the shape (ya, good for reaching through the mask), but found the straw hard to keep clean after a while because of the bend (I use Gatorade too). Ended up getting a Nalgene? bottle from REI — they have zillions of different shapes and colors, plus a straw-top (straight straw) that you buy separately. Works great so far, FWIW. :-)

I’ll have to check out your Nalgene bottle sometime. I hadn’t thought about that cleaning the straw bit …

ha, i meant a deflection into the net. remember my goal against you? it was off your player’s stick, which i consider a lame goal, but it’s still a point for my team. =/
and agreed, getting your slapshot to lift is really cool. =)

Oh, yeah, that. I’m trying to forget that game, remember? ;)

Hey if you don’t want to lose the little cap on the big 5 bottle, wrap a rubberband around the straw to keep the little cap leash from falling off the straw.
I need to get myself a new Big 5 bottle…maybe I’ll check out the Nalgene one. I didn’t know you could get a straw for it. My hubby uses the Nalgene bottle to carry water from home to the rink and then he pours it into the Big 5 bottle. Certainly would simplify things if he just had a straw.
But if you put enough Gatorade/sugar in your drink you probably won’t notice if the straw gets a little dirty. :-)

Yeah, I’m totally doing the Nalgene to Big 5 bottle transfer. Don’t want to risk any accidental Gatorade squirts in the gearbag!
The rubber band’s a great idea. It’ll also help me differentiate my green Gatorade Big 5 bottle from G’s when the two of us skate on the same team. Thanks!

Apparently I’m not the only one still awake. :-)

Ha! No, I never manage to tear myself from my computer to go to bed.
